Their only way to get rid of the obligation is either to support you or give you an even better gift back. If you give someone a powerful enough gift, they are forced to support you in certain actions even if it is against their interests.

A 2008 Euro worker-placement game that has a brilliant gifting mechanism. I've always been a sucker for simultaneous orders/play in games, especially when there's also direct conflict. A fast playing (20 minutes), asymmetric game of simultaneous orders from 2008. Some games that I really like that fly under the radar: This is a great game held back by the iconography. Tony Boydell (the designer) made some card paste-ups with effect explanations and it enhances the game so much. I think it would have done so much better if the iconography didn’t get in the way so much (really every other card you are trying to find on the terrible card icon reference sheet). I think there was a disservice to this game that is was produced language independent, the iconography really needs text captions to really make sense of the game. I love the route building puzzle combined with push your luck. So underrated in my opinion, it’s my favourite roll and write (well, flip and fill) type of game. Kokoro: Avenue of the Kodama (formerly Avenue) It’s a very clever hand management game and the card play gives lots of room for big combo plays. It’s a odd theme where you have a menagerie of six creatures where you are evolving/adapting the creatures to different environments. This is a superb engine building tableau game, I really think this is underrated Richard Breese title. I love that in this game there is an ebb and flow between wanting to inject more cards into your deck and trimming out cards. Every turn you are trying to build and trim your deck so that you isolate xenon.
